Democrats Could Still Run for County Office

Marion County Iowa Democratic Party Chairwoman Anita Martin tells KNIA/KRLS News that though the party does not have anybody on the primary ballot, there still are opportunities for Democrats to appear on the general ballot. Martin says that they discussed options before last month’s filing deadline, but nobody has stepped forward as of yet.
There are three Republican candidates for two Board of Supervisor spots on June 5th’s primary. There are also two GOP sheriff candidates, and County Auditor Jake Grandia filed as the only auditor candidate on the ballot. He tells KNIA/KRLS News that if a Democrat wanted to appear on November’s general ballot, the party would have to call a special county-wide convention to make the nomination. Martin says that if that process were to occur, it would be sometime this summer.
