A whirlwind debut week for the Pella High boys tennis team continues today with a home meet against Mount Pleasant. After being among the last of the local sports programs to begin their respective season, the Little Dutch have already played twice this week, and will play once more by the time Saturday is past.

Senior Brannon Johnson says it’s a lot of competition all at once, but says the team is excited to finally be playing after several weeks of practice. He adds that the team is simply focusing on making incremental improvements as the week continues.

“Success is measured by improvement. We’re a young team, and I think being involved in all these competitions will give us more experience and will ultimately make us a better team,” said Johnson.

“I feel like, in order to win, we’ve all got to bring our ‘A’ game. We just have to be consistent – we talk about how consistency is one of the most important aspects of tennis – so we need to be consistent; we need to have a good attitude and just have some fun.”

Competition between the Little Dutch and the Mustangs begins at 4:15 p.m. today on Caldwell Park tennis courts west of Pella High School.
