The Newton girls’ soccer team came to Pella Christian looking for a big win Monday night and escaped with a narrow 2-1 win.  The 1-7 Eagles took the lead at 15:19 as Karianne Bolt hooked a shot into the penalty box that deflected off a Cardinal defender into the goal.  Newton then tied the score with a goal at 31:49.

The two teams fought a scoreless battle for the next 41 minutes until Newton scored the game-winner with 7 minutes remaining in the contest. Lady Eagles’ Coach Bill Collman was extremely pleased with his team’s effort.  “We played really tough tonight against a really talented Newton team,” said Collman.  “Jenna Roose continues to play brilliantly in goal.  We put together some very good offensive attacks.”

Shelby Sytsma led the Eagle defense with 34 defensive stops.  Kylie Lamb and Kayla Van Wyk tallied 26 defensive stops each.  Goalkeeper Jenna Roose recorded 18 saves in the Eagle net.
