Rebounding from a frustrating loss the night before, the Pella Christian boys soccer team put together a complete performance at home Tuesday night, defeating Albia 3-1. The game began with some notable changes in the line-up, namely moving Alex Vink to goalkeeper and putting normal goalie Jordan Van Maanen at forward. The Eagles’ offense struck quickly, as Seth Ruiter scored on a free ball just five minutes into the first half; a margin that held through the opening 40 minutes.

In the second half, John Admiraal notched a goal in the sixth minute on a penalty kick, and Ben Arkema tallied another score on a free ball in the 23rd minute to put the game out of reach. Eagles’ head coach Josh Visser said the defense was key in the win, as his back line of Grant DeNooy, Will VandeVoort, Josh Wetter and Nick Arkema helped Vink settle into goal and made it hard for Albia to find offensive opportunities. The Pella Christian boys soccer team is now 2-1 on the season and will face Knoxville in Pella Thursday night.
