A hard fought-game between two ranked Class 2A boys soccer programs ended in a frustrating loss for the Pella High boys Friday night, as the Little Dutch fell 3-2 at home to Dallas Center-Grimes.

Battling back-and-forth in the first half, the two squads traded scoring opportunities and entered the intermission tied at 2-2. That score held all the way through the second half, forcing a “golden goal” overtime. After a scoreless extra frame, the two evenly matched squads lined up for a second overtime.

It looked like a shootout was eminent, when Dallas Center-Grimes won a free kick with just seconds remaining. The shot missed its mark, but while trying to clear the ball out of the box, a Pella player diverted the ball past the keeper, resulting in an own-goal that gave the Mustangs a 3-2 win.

Pella High’s goals came from Tukker Bogaard and Shenstone Huang. The loss drops the Little Dutch to 4-2-1 overall. They’ll return to Little Hawkeye Conference play Tuesday at Oskaloosa.
