Several local track and field squads enjoyed nearly ideal weather conditions for running Tuesday night at the Dennis Anderson Relays at Davis County High School. In the girls meet, Pella Christian used five first-place finishes to claim second place in the meet behind the host Mustangs. The Lady Eagles earned gold in the 4×100 (S. Faber, L. Breon, K. Van Gilst, J. Fynaardt), 4×200 (S. Faber, M. Spurgeon, Ma. Fopma, J. Schelhaas) and Sprint Medley (S. Faber, J. Fynaardt, L. Breon, J. Schelhaas) Relays; along with individual golds for Schelhaas in the 100 meters and Faber in the long jump. The Lady Eagles also picked up five second-place finishes: 4×400 (L. DeBruin, R. Gritters, C. Veenstra, M. Spurgeon) and Distance Medley (J. Dykstra, S. Jin Oh, R. Gritters, A. Breon) Relays, along with individual silver medals for Leah Breon in the 100 Meter Dash, Veenstra in the 400 Meter Dash, and Spurgeon in the 400 Meter Hurdles.

The Twin Cedars girls finished behind Pella Christian in third place. They claimed first place in the Shuttle Hurdle Relay (Kassidy Swayne, Samantha Hammann, Alee Hugen and Brianna Wimmer), which set a meet record, along with a win in the Distance Medley Relay and Ayla Crosby took the 200 meter dash. Other highlights for the Sabers included a second-place finish by the 4×200 Meter Relay team (Swayne, B. Dunkin, S. Hammann and A. Crosby) and Wimmer in the 100 Hurdles; along with a bronze medal for Crosby in the 100 Meter Dash and the 4×400 Meter Relay Team (M. Alger, B. Roby, Hammann, E. Rowley).

In the boys’ portion of the meet, it was a lot of green and white, as Pella High finished 51 points ahead of second-place Davis County. Zach Buchheit earned gold in the 3200 Meters, churning out a 9:40:89 – the second fastest time in school history. Pella High also won the Shuttle Hurdle (K. DuPre, T. Cox, W. Pingel, J. Versteeg), 4×100 (C. Brogden, R. Shull, J. Vesteeg, A. Fuller), 4×400 (J. Pingel, Br. Konfrst, W. Pingel, L. Steenhoek) and 4×800 (A. Houtz, K. Fitzsimmons, J. Heschke, C. Haning) Meter Relays, as well as individual medals from Chris Brogden in the 100 meters and Austin Fuller at 200 meters.

Second place finishes for the Pella High boys came from Brandon Konfrst in the Long Jump, Jace Versteeg in the 110 Hurdles, Kenny DuPre in the 400 Meter Hurdles, Grant Gustafson in the 400, Zach Buchheit in the 800, Matthew Klein in the 1600 and Evan Jones in the 3200 Meter Runs.

The Pella Christian boys finished in sixth place with 37 points, highlighted by a first-place finish from Derek Van Kooten in the long jump. The Eagles also got a third-place finish from Caleb Morgan in the High Jump and from the Distance Medley Relay Team (A. Howerzyl, D. Van Kooten, R. Stursma, Z. Giddings)

The Twin Cedars boys took 7th place with 16 points. Top performances by the Sabers came in the 4×200 Meter Relay (D. Williams, T. Loeffler, D. Roberts, Z. Gomez) and from Otis Roby, who placed 4th in the 1600 Meter Run.
