It was not the season debut the Pella High girls soccer team had in mind on Tuesday night, as the Lady Dutch were roughed up 7-0 by Dowling Catholic. The Maroons – the No. 7-ranked team in Class 3A – held a 16-2 advantage in shots on goal, and also had four corner kicks to Pella’s one. Despite the lopsided margin, the Lady Dutch continued to battle hard throughout the contest, and new goalkeeper Zoe Vermeer – a junior – performed well in her first varsity start, notching nine saves. The Pella High girls are 0-1 and will try and get back to .500 on Thursday, when they host Fairfield.
