Pella High’s boys track and field team has gotten off to a fast start to the spring season – literally and figuratively. Led by a corps of talented and experienced runners, the Little Dutch have been a force to reckon with in the middle distance events in particular.

“We have basically the entire returning group of those middle distance guys – especially like our 4×400 and 4×800 [relay teams] – they’re all back from teams that qualified for the State Meet last year,” said Pella High boys head coach Brent VanHauen. “The 4×400 made the finals last year with all underclassmen, and the 4×800 ran really, really well with all underclassmen. It’s a great group of guys that are willing to work hard. They push each other every day in practice, and it’s great to see that.”

Those runners will be on display again this afternoon, as the Pella High boys track and field squad will be joined by the girls team for a meet in Nevada. Competition is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. this afternoon.
