Tuesday night’s blistering season debut will be a tough act to follow for the PCM boys golf team, but the Mustangs appear to have a cast in place that could accomplish great things this season. While State-qualifer Hunter Van Veen will undoubtedly be expected to lead the team this season, PCM head golf coach Michael Smith says a number of underclassmen golfers will continue to turn in impressive score cards as well.

“Devon Woody is back. He played No. 3 last year as a freshman – and won a couple of meets. I mean he’s definitely someone to watch out for,” said Smith. “Justin Beener will be another sophomore that’s going to get some quality playing time; and Mike Neff’s a junior. He got his feet wet last year, and he’ll be there too.”

Woody and Neff played a key role in helping PCM set a new team score record on Tuesday, as the Mustang boys fired a combined 140 at the Diamond Trail Golf Club in Lynnville. Those two, along with Hunter and Logan Van Veen all tied for medalist honors with a one-under par 35.

Their next competition takes place on Monday, when they compete at Terrace Hills Golf Course in Altoona.
