A handful of second-place finishes highlighted the third and final day of the 2012 Coed State Track and Field Championships for our local high school athletes.  The Pella High girls earned the first silver medal of the day, running a 1:06.45 in the Shuttle Hurdle Relay.  Less than two hours earlier, Zach Buchheit earned a runner-up finish in the 1600 Meter Run, followed by second-place finishes by the Pella High girls in the 4×100 Meter Relay (50.55), and PCM boys in the 4×400 Meter Relay (3:23.67).

The relay events provided other highlights as well, as the Pella High boys and PCM girls earned third and sixth place finishes, respectively, in their Shuttle Hurdle Relay races.  In the boys 4×100 Meter Relay, PCM (43.97) and Pella High (43.61) each crossed the finish line in fourth place, and Knoxville (43.72) came in just behind the Little Dutch in fifth as part of a Little Hawkeye Conference-dominated event that saw Oskaloosa claim third place.  The Panther boys added more points with a seventh-place finish in the 4×400 Meters.  A disappointing story featured the Pella Christian girls 4×100 Meter Relay, who entered Saturday’s finals with the top time in Class 2A, but were disqualified.

Other medal-winning performances came in the form of a fifth-place finish by Pella’s Marielle Gaiser in the 100 Meter Hurdles, a seventh-place finish from Lexi Kain of PCM in the 200 Meter Dash and eight-place finishes by Pella’s Jace Versteeg in the 110 Meter Hurdles and Colton Spaur of Knoxville in the 200 Meter Dash.  For a complete list of times and finishes for our local athletes, you can find the link at kniakrls.com in Today’s Sports.
