Central College softball players Rhianna Fleetwood and Abbey Strajack were each chosen for Iowa Conference honors for their performances a week ago.

Fleetwood, a junior pitcher, was named the league’s female athlete of the week for her performance in last weekend’s Iowa Conference softball tournament, where she went 3-0 in three appearances, allowed just 13 hits and struck out 10 batters in 21 innings of work.

Fleetwood threw a complete-game shut-out against Simpson in last Thursday, then pitched 14 scoreless innings on Sunday in wins over No. 4 Luther and No. 19 Coe to lead the Dutch to their first tournament title since 2006.

Abbey Strajack was named the league’s Position Player of the Week, mostly for her walk-off single that gave the Dutch a 2-1, 8-inning win over Coe in the conference championship game.  The freshman designated player finished the tournament with four hits in 16 at bats in the tournament.

Central is the No. 2 seed in this weekend’s Regional Tournament, which begins Friday and is being hosted by Central College in Pella.
