Central College senior Sarah Paulson of Ottumwa was named to the Capital One Academic All-District women’s at-large team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Paulson, who less than two weeks ago tied for second place at the NCAA Division III women’s golf championships in Angola, Indiana, graduated with a 3.71 grade point average, majoring in exercise science. She was a first-team selection and is now under consideration for academic all-America honors, which will be announced June 5th.

The women’s at-large team is for athletes competing in golf, tennis, swimming, gymnastics, ice hockey, field hockey, crew, skiing and water polo. Academic and athletic achievement are considered.

A three-time Iowa Conference player of the year and league tournament medalist—she missed the 2010 tournament while studying in Spain—Paulson is also a two-time all-America honoree. She tied for sixth at the national tournament in 2009. At the NCAA tourney May 8-11, Paulson had an eagle on the last day and fired a 77-77-76-73—303 to grab a share of second place, just a stroke away from first. Paulson shares the school 18-hole scoring record (71) and set school marks for 36 holes (72-73—145) and 72-holes (72-73-73-82—300).

Also a three-year letterwinner in women’s basketball, Paulson was a two-time Central team co-captain in golf and a co-captain in basketball as well. She was a second-team all-conference basketball honoree and earned conference player of the week honors in golf 11 times during her career.
