Both doubles teams from Pella Christian will represent the Lady Eagles at the end of the month in the Class 1A Girls Individual State Tennis Tournament.

It was an all-Marion County conclusion in doubles, though, as Knoxville’s tandems of Emily Lee and Kassie Griggs; and Paige Spowart and Taylor Carter each advanced through the doubles ranks to face each other in the consolation round, while Megan Van Kooten and Paige Engbers of Pella Christian had to face teammates Aubree Else and Kayla De Bruin for the title.

Else and De Bruin earned the individual title with a 6-3/6-1 win, but that still meant that Van Kooten and Engbers were runners-up; also earning them a bid to the State Meet.  Lee and Griggs defeated their teammates too, earning third place.

Singles play was much tougher for our local netters, as Jessie Ryals of Pella High and Jaclyn Kuyers of Pella Christian each reached the second round, but had their State Meet bids ended there.

The Class 1A Girls Individual State Tennis Tournament will be held on May 31st and June 1st in Waterloo.
