An intense match-up of the Little Hawkeye Conference boys soccer leaders unfolded on the pitch Tuesday night in Pella, with the host Little Dutch hanging on for a 2-1 win over the visiting Warriors.

Staying physical and close throughout the night, Pella got on the board first on a Brennan Mejia goal that gave the Little Dutch a 1-0 lead at halftime.  Norwalk went on the offensive in the second half, but some great clearances and a couple charging saves from goalkeeper Tim Argo kept the momentum on Pella’s side.

The physicality of the match continued, resulting in a Norwalk player getting a red card and a coach receiving a yellow card before Tukker Bogaard added a second score for Pella High on cross from Shenstone Huang.  The Warriors wouldn’t go away easily, though, beating the Dutch defense on a counter attack and scoring late in the game.

Another dust-up between the teams happened in the 37th minute, though no cards were handed out, and Pella held on for the key league victory.  The Pella boys are now 11-2-1 on the season, 4-0 in conference play, and hit the pitch again on Friday at Pella Christian.
