A windswept Class 2A Boys Substate Soccer Semifinal between Pella High and Newton got chippy quickly, as the Little Dutch opened an early advantage on their way to an 8-0 rout.

The Pella offense set the tone quickly, scoring in the eighth minute and quickly finding themselves up 3-0 with just eleven minutes.  A frustrated Cardinals squad became very physical in their style of play, and ended up earning a total of four yellow cards on the evening for unsportsmanlike play, while Pella received none.

The Little Dutch scored four goals in each half, with Pauly Apostolopoulos leading the way with a trio of scores for the hat trick.  The victory improves Pella’s record to 16-2-1 overall and lands them a spot in Saturday’s Substate Final against Dallas Center-Grimes – who defeated Grinnell 3-0 Wednesday night.
