Add another local golf team to the recent list of conference champions.  The No. 2-ranked PCM boys golf team kept their unbeaten season intact after firing a 310 Wednesday afternoon in Boone to edge out No. 3 South Hamilton by eight strokes and claim the Heart of Iowa Conference Championship.

“Now that was a lot of fun. The kids really wanted this title and they went out and got it,” said PCM head coach Michael Smith.  “The course was a little wet after the storms went through last night, but the kids adjusted well. I can not tell you how proud I am of the way they played.”

The Mustangs had a pair of players battle it out for the top-spot, as Hunter Van Veen was able to edge out teammate Devon Woody in a playoff for individual medalist honors.  Both golfers carded a one-over par 72 through 18 holes.

“Hunter and Devon put on a great show. It was great watching two teammates battling to the end.  Hunter’s game is very solid right now. He doesn’t make many mistakes and he was all over the pin today,” added Smith.  “Devon got off to a great start and never let up. He is really starting to turn his game on and it couldn’t happen at a better time.”

The PCM boys rounded out their team score with a pair of 83’s from Logan Van Veen and Justin Beener.  All four of the Mustangs top scores earned All-Conference honors.
