The weather was less-than-cooperative Friday afternoon in North Central Iowa, but the members of the PCM boys golf team persevered, battling their way to third place in the team standings through the opening round of the Class 2A Boys State Golf Meet. Twice golfers were taken off the course because of lightning, yet the Mustangs still regrouped and pulled together a combined score of 313. Three-time defending champion Carroll Kuemper holds first place with a 302; two strokes in front of Waterloo Columbus.

Individually, Logan Van Veen is in a tie for third with a 75, while teammate Hunter Van Veen right behind with a 76, which ties him for sixth. The rest of PCM’s golfers also scored well, with all four scores at 86 or better. The second round of the Class 2A Boys State Golf Tournament is scheduled to begin an hour later than originally scheduled – at 9:00 a.m. – this morning at the Spring Valley Golf Course near Livermore.

Scores:

Logan Van Veen – 75
