The Pella Christian girls track and field team is very excited about their prospects as they enter tomorrow’s State Track and Field Championships in Des Moines. The Lady Eagles have qualified seven events to compete at the famed Blue Oval, and head coach Kevin Herdegen feels good about his girls’ chances to succeed.

“I think everything that we qualified automatically [at Districts] has a chance to place in the top eight. They’re just really confident. In our relays, we not have the fastest [single] 100 meter runner, but we’ve put four girls together that can move. The same is true in the 4×100, 4×200, and the Sprint Medley Relay,” said Herdegen.

“We just need to focus on the little things, focus on the areas that get us on the track the quickest. It takes four people to make a great relay. We definitely have our events we think we can place in the top three, and we have events we think we can place in the top eight, and if we go out and compete like we’ve been doing all season, we’ll be fine at the end.”

Jasmin Schelhaas will be the first Pella Christian athlete to compete, as she’ll run in the 100 Meter Dash Preliminaries at approximately 10:40 a.m. tomorrow.
