Shaking their trend of struggles on Monday night games, the Pella Christian boys soccer team put together a complete-game performance against Perry, downing the Bluejays 2-1 in Pella.

Perry struck first, but a Cole Rooda goal in the 25th minute knotted the match at 1-1, a score which would hold until halftime. In the second half, both defenses shut down each other’s scoring opportunities, until Dan Hessing found an opportunity to put the Eagles’ second goal in the back of the net.

Strong play by the Pella Christian defense – including Nick Arkema, Grant DeNooy, Will VandeVoort, Caleb Van Weelden and Josh Wetter – kept the Bluejays from getting good looks at the goal; while goalkeeper Alek Vink notched 23 saves. The Pella Christian boys soccer team is now 7-4 overall on the season and plays at Carlisle tonight.
