The Knoxville, Pella High and Pella Christian girls tennis teams are all in action today in Regional Team Tournament play. Chariton is the fourth school that makes up the tournament field. Following an impressive regular season, Pella Christian is the favored team in today’s competition, but Pella High senior Tiffany Carter says that isn’t stopping her and her teammates from trying to continue exceeding their expectations.
“I mean, it’s one thing to go further than your expectations and for us to go further than we may think, but it’s another thing to set your standards high and try to do whatever you can to reach those,” said Carter. “I think with our team dynamic, it’s better for us – as a team – to set our standards high and aim for as much as we can get.”
Meanwhile, Pella Christian head coach Faith Bliss says she’s hopeful her top players can show they’re ready to move to the level of play necessary to make a deep postseason run.
“I would like to see my number one doubles team get to that next step. They’ve been close throughout the regular season, but I haven’t actually seen them hit that next step that would prove to me that they can actually make it all the way to State or beat some of those higher-level teams; so I’d like to see them do that,” said Bliss. “In Aubree’s [Else] singles play – our number one singles player – I would like to see her get a little bit more consistent with some of her shots and not be so much on the backs of her feet.”
The Regional Team Tournament begins this morning at 9:00 a.m. at Pella Christian High School.
