Should Tulip Time be Moved to an Earlier Date?

There won’t be many tulips around during the Tulip Time festival this year, and that doesn’t mean that participants will be short on things to do. But should Tulip Time be moved to an earlier week. Iowa State Climatologist Harry Hillaker says much of the data he sees doesn’t hint at a trend in weather patterns, but one thing he has noticed is that for the past decades the latest spring freeze has been occurring one week to ten days earlier. That means the growing season starts earlier. In the past, organizers of Tulip Time have moved the festivities to an earlier week. If the light winter and early spring weather patterns become a trend, it might be necessary again.
