Eleven year old Preston Van Wyk may have saved his father’s life this morning. Marion County Sheriff Ron Goemaat says the boy’s father, Danny Van Wyk, was working under the bucket of a front end loader in the 500 block of Highway 14, when a control valve failed, dropping the bucket. Danny Van Wyk was pinned until son Preston was able to climb into the front end loader, and with his knowledge of the machine, raise the bucket. Monroe Fire and Rescue and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene, and the senior Van Wyk was transported to Pella Regional Health Center with unknown injuries. KNIA/KRLS News will bring you more information as soon as it becomes official.
