Civil War Reenactment Will Show Key Part of Iowa’s Past

A group of historians from across Iowa will brave the 90 degree temperatures with two layers of wool as a Civil War reenactment visits Auld Park Saturday. The event starts at 10am and will feature an infantry drill, skirmish, mortar demo, and cannon demo and will be repeated at 1pm that afternoon.
Army of the Southwest Civil War Reenactors president O.J. Fargo says that Iowa played a big role in the Civil War, with Knoxville native and Iowa Governor William M. Stone involved in much of the fighting. The reenactment is being sponsored by Iowa State Savings bank and the Knoxville Historic Preservation Commission. Lunch will be available for purchase from the Rotary Club during the event.
The reenactment is in conjunction with a traveling Civil War exhibit is on display at the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame and Museum. The exhibit is located in an air-conditioned trailer in the Hall of Fame and Museum parking lot.
