The Iowa Cattlemen’s Association is warning that cattle may be affected by this week’s heat.Tim Yoder at Tri-County Veterinary Clinic says that usually livestock are able to stay cool by lying down in the shade during the hottest hours of the day. But with temperatures reaching towards the hundreds, extra precautions may need to be taken. Yoder says animals can be cooled down by putting cool water on their legs. He warns that animals should not be cooled too quickly, because they can go into shock, and therefore does not recommend immersing an animal in cold water.
