Kim Dorn, Director of the Marion County Health Department tells KNIA/KRLS News that
the excessive heat and humidity that we have today can cause heat related health problems. She adds that “we know that folks would rather stay at home, but a few hours of time in air conditioning can really reduce the chance of heat related illness. People should try to stay indoors in air conditioning.
If you do not have air conditioning, spend some time in a place that does. Go to the library and find a new book, go to a senior center, visit a friend or relative that does have air conditioning. If you don’t have an air conditioned place you can go, cool down by taking a cool shower or bath, wipe a cool wet cloth on your skin, and stay out of the sun, and drink plenty of water. Don’t ever leave a child, elderly person, or pet in a car, even for a few minutes. This type of heat is dangerous, and people need to do what they can to take care of themselves, their pets, and one another.”
