A three-run home run by Oskaloosa gave the Indians all the runs they would need in Wednesday night’s 3-2 conference win over the Pella High softball team. Lady Dutch pitcher Bri Arkema and Oskaloosa hurler Mackenzie Gott put on a show in their respective circles, and Arkema had the upper hand until one fateful swing in the bottom of the fifth inning that turned a 1-0 Pella lead into a 3-1 Indians’ advantage. Still, Arkema finished the night allowing just five hits and one walk, while striking out six Indian batters.

The Lady Dutch were held to just four hits of their own, one of which came from catcher Morgan Ernst and extended her hitting streak to 11 games. The Pella High softball team is now 13-7 overall and 4-4 in the Little Hawkeye Conference. They’ll face four opponents over the next two days during a tournament in Ames.
