Pella scored two runs in the fifth inning and made the lead stick in a 2-1 victory over Knoxville in softball last night.

The Panthers struck first after both pitchers shut down the opposing team’s hitters for the first three innings. Marissa Lenger scored in the fourth inning after getting on with a bunt and being batted in by Taylor Carter. Pella responded in the top of the fifth with a run scored by Diana Zabrodova and Molly Lanke came home on a Knoxville error.

Bri Arkema got the win, pitching a one-hitter while giving up a run with two walks and four strikeouts. Also pitching a solid game was Knoxville’s Emily Wallace, as she allowed two runs on three hits, no walks, and one strikeout.

Knoxville falls to 8-18 on the season and finished the Little Hawkeye Conference at 4-8; while Pella is 18-10 on the season and clinches a winning record in conference play at 7-4 with one more game to play against Norwalk on Monday.
