Patrick Sheehey pitched a two-hitter and his teammates provided more than enough run support, as Pleasantville ripped Central Decatur 17-1 Tuesday night in five innings. Zeb Adreon and Collin Thomas each had three hits for the Trojans, with Riley Krichau, Josh Luna and D.J. Weaver each adding a pair of hits.
Pleasantville head coach Sheldon Card says the win provided an example of how his team seems to turn steady performances on the mound into better showings at the plate.
“We’ve done an excellent job of throwing strikes. Maybe not all of our guys are striking out a lot of people, but when other teams are putting it into play – and we’re fielding it – the fielders don’t have to sit back on their heels and wonder, ‘when are we going to get out of this inning, [and] when are you going to start throwing strikes’,” said Card.
“It just makes the game go a little quicker, and then the hitters – they’re not inactive – we’re always moving. When the pitchers are doing their part, it keeps the game flowing and it doesn’t slow things down; and I think that’s huge mentally in this game.”
The victories put the Pleasantville baseball team at 18-5 overall and 10-2 in the Pride of Iowa Conference. They’ll travel to Chariton tonight for a non-conference match-up with the Chargers.
