The Pella High softball team split a pair of hard-fought games Friday afternoon in the first day of play at the Ames Softball Invite; beating Perry 4-1 before falling to West Delaware by the same score – 4-1.

Against Perry, the Lady Dutch had plenty of pop in their bats, as Allie DeMeulenaere, Morgan Ernst and Bri Arkema each had a pair of hits; while freshman McKenna Rozenberg blasted a home run in her only hit of the game.  DeMeulenaere also stole two bases and scored a pair of runs in the win.  Bri Arkema earned the win, allowing six hits and two walks while striking out two batters.

Pella continued to swing the bats well in their second game, but West Delaware’s defense was able to turn a number of well-struck balls into outs.  Still, Rozenberg had her second extra-base hit of the day, notching a double, while Lindsey Mueller and Diana Zabradova also had one hit.  Elyse Sadler got the start, allowing six hits and two walks, and striking out two West Delaware batters in the loss.

The Pella High softball team concludes play in Ames today with contests against North Scott and the host Cyclones.
