After two days of much-needed time away from competition, the Pella Christian softball team returns to Little Hawkeye Conference play tonight in a home game against Newton. The Cardinals handed the Lady Eagles a 5-1 setback earlier in the season, and Pella Christian senior Sami Veenstra says success at the plate against Newton’s Courtney Meyer will certainly be a focus for the team – but only if it’s part of the complete package.

“Hitting is a really strong focus [against Newton], but we have to remember that if we do well in fielding that we have to remember to hit, too,” says Veenstra. “That’s one of our weaknesses. We have to be strong in both areas, and if we come out fielding well we have to hit well too, or else we lose our advantage.”

The Pella Christian softball team is 5-14 overall and 3-4 in league play entering tonight’s game in Pella.
