Thursday night’s contests on the diamond between the Melcher-Dallas and Twin Cedars softball and baseball teams turned out very similar to the outcomes their first meeting of the season, with the Sabers baseball team winning by double digits and the softball game decided by just one run – this time in favor of Twin Cedars. The Saints softball team certainly had their chance, though, as the tying run was on third base with one out in the top of the 7th inning, but Twin Cedars caught her in a rundown and tagged her out before eventually closing out the half inning and the 4-3 win.
Freshman Mackenzie Sedlock earned the win in the pitcher’s circle, throwing all seven innings, as she allowed eight hits and three walks, but struck out three batters. At the plate, Brooke Dunkin and Brittany Roby paced the Sabers’ offense, as each player went 2-for-4 – with Dunkin scoring twice and Roby adding another score. The Twin Cedars softball team is now 12-7 overall and 5-2 in the Bluegrass Conference. Starting pitcher Lexi Crozier took the loss, as Melcher Dallas slips to 9-11 overall and 6-3 in the league.
The clash on the baseball diamond between the Saints and Sabers was another lopsided affair, though this time Melcher-Dallas had a better start in a 13-3 loss. In fact, the Saints were up 3-1 at one point, before errors and mental miscues allowed the game to slip away. Otis Roby had a huge night for the Sabers, as the freshman struck out 12 batters on the mound, then backed himself up by going 4-for-5 at the plate. The win bumps Twin Cedars to 12-6 overall and 7-0 against the Bluegrass Conference, while Melcher Dallas is 3-9 overall and 2-7 against league opponents.
