You may have noticed that the sand bars on the west side of Lake Red Rock are covered in grass. Usually these sand bars are much less vegetated, says Junifer Kruse at the Corps of Engineers Office. She says that usually the Lake levels fluctuate and the bars are inundated with water and cannot grow. Further Upstream, some sand bars that are usually covered in water are being used to grow corn. Kruse says the grass covered sand bars are good habitats for shorebirds and waterfowl.
