Southern Iowa Speed Week gets underway Thursday as the 360 Knoxville Nationals begin. A new event on Sunday will honor one of the titans of Knoxville Raceway. Raceway General Manager Toby Kruse says that the inaugural “Capitani Classic” is an exciting way to honor the former Raceway Director Ralph Capitani. Capitani retired at the beginning of this year after working at Knoxville Raceway for more than four decades. The show will be capped off with a 25-lap, 24-car “A” main with 5000 dollars being awarded to the winner. It will also serve as the final tune-up for 410 drivers before the following weekend’s Goodyear Knoxville Nationals. The first ever Capitani Classic will be on Sunday, August 5th.
