Central College’s men’s and women’s tennis teams have landed the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team award. Meanwhile, nine individual student-athletes captured ITA Scholar-Athlete recognition.
The men’s squad, which also received the honor last year, compiled a 3.23 combined team grade point average and posted an 8-13 overall record. The Dutch women tallied a 3.27 GPA and had an 11-12 mark. Both teams finished sixth in the Iowa Conference. To receive the team distinction, a squad’s combined GPA must be a 3.2 or above.
Four men and five women were named ITA Scholar-Athletes. Juniors Kyle Freischlag and John Seier received Scholar-Athlete distinction for the second straight year. The duo was joined by David Bouska and Josh Forst. Recent graduate Riley Taylor and senior Chelsea Johnson led the women’s team with 4.0 marks. The pair was joined by Nicole Curran and recent graduates Emily Swartz and Kayla Donner.
To qualify for the individual honor, student-athletes must be a varsity letterwinner, have attended the institution at least two semesters and achieve a 3.5 or higher GPA for the academic year.
