Central Women’s Basketball Team Among the Nation’s Best D-3 Scholar-Athletes

For the second straight year, Central College is on the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association’s Top 25 Team Academic Honor Roll.

Under first-year coach Mike Jacobsma, the Dutch rank 20th with a combined team grade point average of 3.46 for the 2011-12 academic year. Central was also 20th in 2010-11 and has cracked the honor roll six times since 1997, finishing second in the U.S. in 2000, third in 1997 and fifth in 1999. Central earlier had five players named to the academic all-Iowa Conference squad.

Northland College – which is in Wisconsin – ranked No. 1 in Division III with a combined GPA of 3.71. Central was among four Iowa schools in the rankings and one of just two that was in last year’s rankings as well. Simpson ranks eighth at 3.54 with Luther 16th at 3.49 and Grinnell 18th at 3.47.
