A group of 7th grade girls from Pella competed in the Iowa Games 6th/7th Grade Girls 5-on-5 Basketball competition earlier this month and came home with a gold medal – winning the competition.

En route to their victory, the girls beat the Cedar Falls Tigers and Kb’s Rams to advance to the semi-finals where they beat Johnston Heat.  In the finals they faced a competitive Iowa Wolves team, came from behind to take the game into overtime and came out the Iowa Games Champion.

Earlier this year, these girls competed in the 2012 Iowa Youth Basketball State Championship in Cedar Falls where they finished second.

This finish qualified the team for the 2012 Great Four-State Championship.  The girls will travel to Minneapolis Aug 17 – 18 to compete against teams from Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota.   Games will be played in the Target Center and the team will be introduced during the Minnesota Lynx game on Friday, Aug.17th.
