Knoxville won a wild regular season finale in baseball last night over Fairfield 14-10. The Panthers would battle from behind twice and took the lead for good in the decisive third inning scoring five runs and going from being down 5-4 to up 9-5. However the Trojans would not go away as they battled back to within two runs in the fifth only to see the Panthers slam the door on timely hitting and getting outs when needed. Coach Joel Johnson said he saw a lot of progress from his younger guys in a back-and-forth game that finally went the Panthers’ way. Jake Kendall got the win going five innings of relief to Kevin Woodhouse who suffered what looks to be a season-ending broken hand when he took a line drive off of his pitching hand in the second inning. Kendall allowed six runs on eight hits, four walks and struck out one. Offensively for Knoxville Kendall helped his own cause by getting three R-B-I, Steve Watson got two key R-B-U in the third while Tony Salato was productive getting two hits and scoring a run. Likely the most unusual stat line of the night was Justin Katich. He had no official at bat walking three times and being hit by a pitch on his final at bat, but scored twice. Knoxville is now 8-25 on the season and will now look to the class 3A District hosting Chariton on Friday.
