The 2012 season was certainly one to be proud of for the Twin Cedars softball team. The Sabers again eclipsed the 20-win mark, finished with a share of the Bluegrass Conference title for the third straight season, and made it all the way to the Class 1A Regional Finals before falling to Martensdale-St. Mary’s.

Twin Cedars’ head coach Zack Dunkin said even though his team was disappointed to see their season end, the experience could prove to be a positive one for his returning players.

“I think that’s what we need to take away from it for the girls that will be back next year. It was definitely a learning experience,” said Dunkin. “I know it’s sad for the seniors to go out that way, but it’s something I think we’ll build on and look to that if we are fortunate enough to to have the type of season that we get there again next year, I think it will help the girls that were there this year.”

If it’s any consolation, Martensdale-St. Mary’s may end up being the Class 1A State Champion. The Blue Devils claimed a 2-1 victory over Charter Oak-Ute in yesterday’s State Semifinals; and will face Earlham at 10:00 a.m. today in the State Championship game.
