Despite a very young lineup this past season, the Twin Cedars baseball team set out to conquer some significant goals and a daunting non-conference schedule – and met the challenges head-on.

“At the beginning of the season, goal-wise, we were thinking more along the lines of just getting a Bluegrass Conference title. Once it was clear that we had a really good shot at that, our goal changed to being undefeated [in the conference] and district champs, and a possible State Tournament berth,” said Sabers’ head coach Matt Miller.

“That last part didn’t work out for us, but it was definitely a fun ride, and the kids really worked hard and deserved all that they got.”

The Twin Cedars baseball team certainly had nothing to be disappointed in, though, as they fell to eventual State Champion Martensdale-St. Mary’s in the Class 1A Substate Finals. Still, the Sabers accomplished a lot this summer – finishing with a 25-10 overall record and going a perfect 13-0 in the Bluegrass Conference.
