PCM’s savvy veterans try and bring their team one game closer to a return trip to the State Baseball Tournament tonight, when they take on Interstate-35 in a Class 2A District Final contest in Pella. The Mustangs are 20-10 overall and facing a Roadrunners’ squad that is a very comparable 20-7; and also matches PCM with a large contingent of upperclassmen.

“I know [head] coach Jeff Douglas pretty well – he’s a great coach. They’re [I-35] always a well-coached team and he always has those guys ready to play. The benefit for him is that he comes back with a lot of seniors this year that got experience last year that makes a huge difference,” said Mustangs’ head coach Shawn Hudnut. “It’s going to be a battle of two very senior-heavy teams, and all the experience that comes with those kind of guys that are playing. It should be a good game, and it’s probably going to come down to a few pitches here and there; and a few plays here and there.”

Both teams enter the finals off of one-run victories, as Interstate-35 toppled Des Moines Christian 3-2 on Tuesday and PCM pushed past Pella Christian 6-5. You can hear the live play-by-play of tonight’s game streamed at kniakrls.com with Eric Gotschall and Mark Amadeo at Pella Christian High School for the call. First pitch between the Mustangs and Roadrunners is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
