Four runs in the top of the third and fourth innings gave the helped the Pella Christian baseball team secure a 8-6 win Thursday night at PCM.

The Mustangs hit the board first with a run in the second inning, but after the Eagles promptly responded in the middle innings and limited PCM to one run in the fifth and a scoreless sixth, it looked like Pella Christian would ice a surprisingly lopsided victory. PCM tried to make a final-inning rally, but had their charge stopped at four runs by the Eagles’ bullpen.

Pella Christian starter Josh Van Gorp threw six strong innings, allowing two runs on five hits and four walks, while striking out seven batters. At the plate, nearly every Eagle batter had an impact, with a number of hitters reaching base on walks or driving in RBIs. Spencer Fynaardt led the way, going 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI, while teammate Jordan Rossler was 2-for-4 with a run scored.

PCM used five pitchers in the loss, with Sean O’Connor taking the loss. Hutch Burns and Bo Clymer led the Mustangs at the plate with mirroring nights; each going 2-for-4 with a triple, a run scored, and two RBI.
