District baseball continues tonight for Pella High, as the Little Dutch take on Chariton in the Class 3A Finals. Pella started Jacob Gleason on the mound in their win Friday over Centerville, but Pella head coach Al Vasher says his team really feels like they have two No. 1 pitchers, and they’ll be just as confident tonight with the ball in the hands of Schyler Kane.

“Schyler has that same presence on the mound [as Gleason], and that’s an evolutionary process for kids to go from being a really good, solid JV pitcher to now taking control at the varsity level,” said Vasher. “Taking control means that your teammates trust you to make the pitches that you need to make – when you need to make them – just like we have to trust our hitters to make the hits.”

The first pitch between Pella High and Chariton in the Class 3A District Baseball Tournament is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. tonight in Knoxville. You can hear the live play-by-play tonight on 92.1 fm KRLS with Eric Gotschall and Chad Whitten providing the call.
