West Marion Street adjacent to Lincoln in Knoxville is now open after the contractor completed work there as part of the West Area Relief Project. Public Works Director Jeff May says that major construction is now being halted as the Knoxville Nationals approach. He explains that city crews will continue paving projects on side streets during that time, but they will stay off of the main roads to avoid congesting what’s expected to be heavy traffic.

The Monday after Nationals, construction will resume and Pleasant Street on either side of Highway 14 will be closed for about a block in both directions. May says that Highway 14 will remain open during that time, but residents will need to be prepared to take different routes other than turning onto Pleasant there.
