Prill Pops Game-Winner; Pleasantville Baseball Advances

For the second time in as many games, the Pleasantville baseball team pulled-off some late-game theatrics; this time earning a 3-2 walk-off victory Thursday night against North Mahaska in the Class 1A District Semifinals.
With the game tied at 2-2 and two outs against the Trojans in the bottom of the seventh inning, Matt Prill pushed a low fly ball to shallow right field to score Trey Busick from second base and win the game.
“You know, it’s great. He [Prill] was a kid that really hadn’t put many balls in play the last two nights,” said Pleasantville head coach Sheldon Card, “and for him to get that game winner – it’s huge for his confidence going into Saturday – and just makes everything right.”
Busick’s hit that landed him on the base paths was his second of the night, as he was the only Pleasantville player to notch multiple hits against North Mahaska’s Beau Freeborn. The Warhawks landed the first scores on the board, putting up two runs in the top of the fourth inning, but the Trojans responded in the bottom of the frame with two of their own, courtesy of a dropped ball that Busick hit to center field. While the offense managed to keep pace with the Warhawks, the Trojans’ defense got a big boost from their number two and number three pitchers.
“Kendal Clark and Josh Luna…fantastic. Josh Luna’s a freshman, and I’m sure there’s people out there wondering why I put him in there, but there’s a reason,” said Card. “He’s the real deal, and sometimes I don’t treat him like a freshman – but he’s a good one.”
Luna pitched the final three innings to earn the win. The win bumps Pleasantville’s record to 23-9 and sets them up to face BGM in Saturday’s Class 1A District Final in Montezuma.
