There’s always a value in setting a goal and then reaching that mark, and with the success that came to the Twin Cedars softball team this season was the satisfaction of accomplishing two significant goals. Sabers’ head coach Zack Dunkin says it was important for his team to reach their objective of finding success in the postseason and finishing atop the Bluegrass Conference.

“That was one of the goals of the season, and another goal was just getting past the first round of the Regionals. That had been kind of a stumbling block for the program that last two or three years, and that was one of the goals a lot of the girls had written down when we had our preseason meeting way back in March,” said Dunkin.

“That Bluegrass [Conference] title – sharing it with Moravia the last two years – they had an All-State pitcher and they were an improved team this year; and then sharing it with Melcher-Dallas the year before that makes it three shares of the title now, and I think that’s pretty impressive.”

The Twin Cedars softball team had one of the winningest seasons in recent memory, finishing 24-15 overall and going 12-2 in the Bluegrass Conference. The Sabers made it all the way to the Regional Finals before falling at the hands of eventual State Champion Martensdale-St. Mary’s.
