Twin Cedars Stumbles, But Still Dispatches Moravia 15-1 in District Tourney

Though they won by a lopsided margin yet again, the Twin Cedars baseball team was not quite performing at postseason levels in Tuesday night’s 15-1 win over Moravia. The Sabers committed an uncharacteristic five errors in their opening-round clash with the Mohawks – the fourth time they’ve beaten the Bluegrass Conference foe by double digits this season.
Otis Roby put up a noteworthy night on the mound for Twin Cedars, throwing all six innings and allowing just two hits while striking out eleven. Roby had plenty of help at the plate, as Corey Harrell was 3-for-5 with two doubles.
“I think Corey – one thing he does – he’s a good power hitter. He does a very good job of staying within himself; takes the ball the other way very well, and he’s not going up to the plate looking to hit the home run – which is key, especially at the high school level,” said Twin Cedars’ head coach Matt Miller. “He stays on top of the ball, hits a lot of line drives – especially in the gaps for us. When we’ve got runners on base, we’re confident that he’s going to be able to knock them in.”
Other notables included Eric Clark, who went 3-for-4; and Hunter Embray finished his night going 2-for-3 with a double and two walks. The victory puts the Twin Cedars baseball team at 23-9 overall, entering Thursday’s District Semifinals, where they’ll host another league team – Moulton-Udell.
