After running into a bit of an offensive juggernaut last Friday in a loss at Marshalltown, the Pella High football team is back in the Tulip City tonight for their home opener; as they’ll host Washington in a Week Two match-up. The Demons were an annual fixture on Pella’s early season schedule for a number of years, and after a two year hiatus, head coach Jay McKinstrey says he’s looking forward to renewing the rivalry tonight. McKinstrey says being successful tonight starts by his players showing the improvements they’ve made in the past week.

Washington enters the game 1-0 after a 30-0 win in Week One over Mid-Prairie. It’s an active night tonight at Pella High, as several additional activities are going on. Parents have organized a “black-out”, encouraging fans to wear a black shirt for tonight’s game. It’s also parents’ night, as football parents will be recognized before the game; and the team is holding a food drive as well. Hopes are to collect enough non-perishable foods and other items to help re-stock the local food bank. The KNIA/KRLS Big Red Radio will be there in the hours leading up to the game, collecting food donations and playing music.

Coverage of tonight’s football game between Pella High and Washington will be streamed live at kniakrls.com, starting at 6:45 p.m. with Eric Gotschall and Randy Sikkema providing the play-by-play. The game will also be featured in a delayed broadcast at approximately 10:00 p.m. tonight on 92.1 fm KRLS.
