A lack-luster first half took its toll on the Knoxville Football Squad last night against Dallas Center-Grimes as the Panthers comeback fell short by a score of 9-7 to the Mustangs. Dallas Center-Grimes controlled the time of possession and clock for the first half getting a touchdown for the only points for a 6-0 lead at the break. Knoxville would get a better rhythm in the second half and started to move the ball but could not convert opportunities, while the Mustangs lengthened their lead to 9-0 on a field goal late in the third quarter. Those points would prove big as Colton Spaur would score on an eight yard touchdown run for Knoxville only points to make the eventual final score 9-7. The Panthers had a chance to get the ball back with less than a minute remaining but a roughing the punter penalty sealed the game. Coach Troy Rider said the loss could be traced back to the first half when the Panthers defense just could not get off the field. Spaur had 118 yards on 17 carries for Knoxville who now fall to 2-3 on the season with all three losses coming by a combined five points. Knoxville will get back in district play with its Homecoming game next week against Carlisle.
