Saturday featured a full slate of contests for a number of athletic programs at Central College. Here’s a quick look back on the weekend:

Sophomore Taylor Hill coasted to a 15-stroke victory in the medalist race at the Central College Fall Invitational women’s golf tourney Saturday. Hill turned in the low score each day, carding a 153 at the par-72 Bos Landen Golf Club. She led the Dutch to second place in the six-team field at 696. Grinnell College won the team title, rallying from Friday’s second-place round to edge the Dutch by five shots at 691. The Central College women’s golf team will travel to Normal, Illinois, next weekend for the 36-hole Illinois Wesleyan Fall Invitational.

The Central College men’s cross country squad scored a convincing victory in a strong field at the Grinnell Les Duke Invitational Saturday morning while the women placed fifth. The Dutch men were powered by three top-10 finishes en route to the win, led by junior Brent Ewing in third place. Senior Mel McDermott led Central women again Saturday, finishing in 16th place. Both squads are off next weekend and the men will take a partial squad to the Grand View Invitational Sept. 21. The Univ. of Minn. Roy Griak Invitational on Sept. 29 will be the next major competition for the Dutch.

The Central College women’s tennis team opened the Iowa Conference season with 7-2 and 8-1 wins over Dubuque and Loras, respectively, Saturday, improving to 3-0 overall. Central takes on Simpson Tuesday in the next conference battle.

The Central College women’s soccer team struggled offensively in a 2-0 loss to Hamline Saturday. The Dutch are now 2-2 overall.

Central College jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead but the men’s soccer team couldn’t hold off an Illinois Wesleyan assault as the Dutch fell 4-1 Saturday. The Dutch are now 2-2-1 and host perennial NCAA championship contender Washington Tuesday. The Bears are coming off a double-overtime 0-0 draw against Loras College Friday.

The Central College volleyball team dropped a pair of matches Saturday to Minnesota schools, falling to Martin Luther College and Bethel University . The Dutch fell to Martin Luther 25-18, 28-26, 25-17, then were swept by Bethel 25-19, 25-20, 25-18 to slip to 1-7. Central opens the Iowa Conference volleyball slate Tuesday, tackling No. 21 Wartburg College (7-1) in Pella.
