A Knoxville man was arrested early this morning after threatening a group of residents with a hammer. According to the Knoxville Police Department, 28-year-old Stephen Michael Visser called to threaten occupants of a home just off the downtown square shortly before midnight last night. A man called police to report that Visser was threatening to come over and fight. Another call after midnight stated that Visser had shown up at the residence carrying a hammer. The caller says Visser threatened the occupants and spit in the face of one before leaving.

Officers went to Visser’s house and arrested him for burglary and assault. According to the police department, Visser would not cooperate while being arrested and was spitting on officers.

Visser has been charged with Burglary 1st degree, Going Armed with Intent, Assault on a Peace Officer, Assault while Participating in a Felony, Theft 5th degree, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Interference with Official Acts. He was taken to the Marion County Jail pending court appearance.

The Knoxville Police Department says no one was injured during the incident
